ROCKLAND COUNTY TIMES
May 2003
by Maurice Woodson
It was a beautiful Tuesday night as a crowd began to gather in front of the
Sloatsburg Library. The residents of Sloatsburg and and neighboring villages
all came out to enjoy "The Gershwins, Cole Porter, & Me," a production by
the Louis Landon Trio. Once inside, it was standing room only. The trio,
which consisted of vocalist Louis Landon on keys, Tony Marino on bass, and
Joe Carozza on the drums, played the Gershwins/Cole Porter standards as well
as original music written by Landon that stood up well with these great
composers of the past.
Landon, who is currently a resident of Chestnut Ridge has performed all over
the country and abroad. "It was a privilege to have someone of this caliber
come to Sloatsburg," said Stephanie Vitale who organized the event. "We are
trying to bring a variety of cultural and entertaining events to the
community because the community deserves and desires it. Money is tight, but
we found out that we could apply for a grant and we received it." The
library hopes to continue quality events to a community that is starving for
it.
